CISSP: the gold standard for security leadership
Ask any CISO which certification carries the most weight on a security CV and the answer is nearly unanimous: CISSP. ISC2's flagship credential certifies breadth — eight domains spanning risk, architecture, identity, operations and software security — at the level where security is managed, not just performed.
The experience requirement confuses many: five years in at least two domains, but you can pass the exam first as an Associate of ISC2 and bank the credential while accruing time. Career changers should not wait.
The exam itself is adaptive and famously conceptual. It rewards thinking like a risk adviser — 'what protects the business best?' — over memorising port numbers. Preparation therefore favours structured instruction and scenario practice over flashcards.
For those earlier in the journey, ISC2's Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) is a genuine entry credential with no experience requirement — and a sensible first step on the same ladder. Both run as instructor-led courses at Torque IT with exams at our Pearson VUE centre.
